​As a business owner or an aspiring entrepreneur, at a point, you need some form of funding and networking as well as mentorship to help build or grow your business, and just as expected, I've compiled some great business networking, mentorship and funding opportunities for you to help you get started.

Well, don't thank me yet since you will need to put in a lot of efforts in scaling through the challenges offered by this programs.

Nevertheless, most of them only require a good business plan, filling of an application form and your active participation such as pitching your business to a panel of judges. You should probably subscribe to Ghavoch and stay tuned to this post since I will be updating it often.

1. International Youth Foundation YouthActionNet's Laureate Global Fellowship for Young Social Entrepreneurs

The Laureate Global Fellowship is a pioneering youth social entrepreneurship program working to redefine how young people lead change. 

Launched in 2001, the fellowship invests annually in twenty extraordinary young leaders whose social ventures are transforming how age-old challenges are addressed in their communities and countries.

 Fellowship applicants earn their spot in this renowned cohort through a rigorous selection process including evaluation by a panel of peer leaders and executives from distinguished global institutions.

Laureate Global Fellows begin their fellowship experience at a week-long, in-person retreat where they are challenged to step away from the demands of daily work in order to see themselves, their work, and the world with new eyes.

2. HiiL Justice Accelerator Innovating Challenge for Justice Entrepreneurs

Every year hundreds of the world's best ideas and projects in justice innovation apply to the HiiL Justice Accelerator.

The Innovating Justice Challenge has been the world's foremost search for justice innovations since 2012. However, only about 15-20 are selected for grant funding, justice expertise and networking, and mentorship.

The HiiL Justice Accelerator is focused on finding and supporting innovations that create rights awareness, provide resolution of disputes and legal problems or improve efficiency and transparency in the existing legal system."

In general, they find that justice innovations fall into three categories:

5. Injini EdTech Incubator Programme for EdTech Entrepreneurs in Africa.

Injini is the first EdTech dedicated incubator programme on the African continent. It is the only opportunity for EdTech entrepreneurs based anywhere in Africa to get industry specialist mentoring, support, scale up and funding introductions, and early-stage funding.


  • The programme is open to anyone from, based in or focused on any African country.
  • Injini are looking at for-profit businesses, focused on Africa and on as broad a section of the population as possible (especially low income), that address learning from early years to adults using technology.


  • 6 months. Cohort 2 is scheduled to begin in July 2018 and end on December 2018


  • Injini will cover the full cost of travel to and from Cape Town for all entrepreneurs and teams.
  • Injini will pay stipends.
  • Injini will cover accommodation for those that need it. We will cover all programme related travel.
Application Process:
  • Applicants fill in a short application form that will be live from 1 March to 3 April 2018. Around 20 successful applicants will go through our due diligence process, including providing a short video by 16th April.
  • The top 15 will pitch to our selection panel for the remaining 8 places.

6. Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative (CYFI) for young visionary Nigerians

The Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative (CYFI), is a dynamic youth-based initiative launched in 2011 by the U.S. Consulate General, Lagos.

CYFI brings together Nigerian youth of exceptional vision, skills and experience to design and implement projects that have a positive impact on Nigerian society.

Former Ambassador to Nigeria, Walter Carrington, was a champion of civil liberties, democracy and closer ties between the U.S. and Nigeria.

CYFI fellows are committed to putting the ideals of Walter Carrington into practice. The CYFI Board of Directors, in conjunction with the Public Affairs Section at the U.S. Consulate General, Lagos, selects fellows who demonstrate exceptional vision, skills and experience. 

Fellows are them grouped into teams based on interest, and teams then develop and implement their own youth engagement project over the course of the one-year fellowship duration.
In addition to working with their team to bring their project into fruition, CYFI fellows have the opportunity to attend various networking events, roundtables and forums on relevant social issues, hosted by the U.S. Consulate General, Lagos.

The year will conclude with an awards ceremony for fellows, where fellows will be inducted into the CYFI Alumni Program.

The Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP) for African entrepreneurs is open and you can get USD 5000 in Funding to kick-start or expand your business.

Africa's largest philanthropy supporting entrepreneurship – The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) is now accepting applications for business ideas that can transform Africa.

Established in 2010, The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) is the leading philanthropy in Africa championing entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs across the continent.

The Foundation's long-term investment in empowering African entrepreneurs is emblematic of Tony Elumelu's philosophy of Africapitalism, which positions Africa's private sector, and most importantly entrepreneurs, as the catalyst for the social and economic development of the continent.

The Foundation's flagship initiative, the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme, is a 10-year, $100 million commitment to identify, train mentor and fund 10,000 entrepreneurs, capable of changing the face of business across Africa.

9. Global Youth Empowerment Fund

The Global Youth Empowerment Fund is an initiative to empower young people around the world to impact their communities by investing in grassroots, community projects.

A partnership of JCI and the SDG Action Campaign (formerly the UN Millennium Campaign), the Fund will offer grants, financing and training to youth-led projects and social enterprises that advance the Global Goals for Sustainable Development in local communities around the world.

All Projects Must Be:

    • Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and nonprofit private bodies whose activities contribute to the promotion of sustainable development and youth leadership; Examples include: JCI Local Organization, SDG Action Campaign partners, youth-run registered nonprofit.

    • Public bodies with specific responsibility for the promotion of youth engagement in advancing the Global Goals for Sustainable Development;
  • Be created and led by youth between the ages of 18 to 40.

  • Demonstrate community impact and project planning criteria in line with the JCI Active Citizen Framework. The JCI Active Citizen Framework is a planning mechanism for community-based organizations to identify their community's greatest needs and align their projects to the global development agenda creating global impact.

  • Adhere to the goals of JCI and SDG Action Campaign in developing grassroots projects that advance at least one of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development through the JCI Active Citizen Framework.

  • Include like-minded community partners who agree to support the applicant's project. Types of partnership can include financial support, in-kind support or marketing and communications support.

  • Include plans for organization's own support of the project, including both financial (e.g. fundraising or sponsorship acquisition) and non-financial (e.g. volunteer hours or in-kind sponsorship) support. The applicant organization is expected to supply at least 50% of the value of the requested funding in their own support.

  • Have mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation and follow-up after funding has been dispersed. All funded projects must submit the required project updates and final reports.

14. Postcode Lottery green challenge for startups. Win up to €500,000.

Postcode Lottery is here again with another edition of their Green Startup Challenge! This is one of the world's largest competitions in the field of sustainable entrepreneurship for the green industries.

Green start-ups across the globe can submit their promising business plans and after the competition, the winner goes home with €500,000 to further develop the product or service and launch to the market.

The runner-up, however, receives €200,000 and the three other finalists receive €100,000 each. The selection process is handled by an international jury. Learn more here

15. Africa's Young Entrepreneurs Empowerment Nigeria (AYEEN)

AYEEN comes with a long list of available slots for funding, mentoring and training for creative and innovative entrepreneurs in Nigeria.

16. AGFUND International Prize for Pioneering Human Development

This is an annual prize established in 1999 by the Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND), with the aim of inciting and encouraging innovation and creativity in human development work.

The Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND) announces the first goal of the SDGs 2030 " End of poverty in all its forms everywhere " as subject for the 2018 AGFUND International Prize 2018 and invites the United Nations, international and regional organizations, ministries and public institutions, social business enterprises, national NGOs, individuals and development actors worldwide to submit nominations for the Prize.

The AGFUND Prize Carries:

a) The cash amount of US $1,000,000 (one million) distributed as follows:

  1. First category: US $400,000
  2. Second category: US $300,000
